The Dream Of No Drill

The Dream Of No Drill In Cincinnati

If you ask dental patients in the Tri-State, Butler County, and Mason area what they hate the most about dental visits, chances are that they’ll mention the drill. Just the sound of it is enough to make people cringe.

Many residents of West Chester, Ohio may wonder if there will ever be an alternative to the dreaded dental drill. Guess what? Now there is!

Drill-less dentistry is also known as air abrasion or microabrasion. Air abrasion can be used for common dental procedures such as removing tooth decay or preparing tooth surfaces for sealants or bonding. These instruments work like a little sandblaster that aim a fine stream of particles at the area that would normally be drilled. After the stream of particles strikes and removes the decay, the materials are suctioned out of the mouth.

Hi. I’m dentist Sanjeev Goel of West Chester. I want my patients to be aware of the latest dental technology available, especially as it pertains to cosmetic dentistry.

Don’t Let Poor Oral Health Take You Out Of The Game

Tri-State cosmetic dental

It’s hard to win a gold medal if you have a toothache. A recent study cited in the British Journal of Sports Medicine explored how poor oral health affects athletic performance at the elite level.

“More than 40% of athletes were bothered by their oral health with 28% reporting an impact on quality of life and 18% on training and performance.”1

The dental troubles experienced by Olympians and professional athletes are not any different than those found in the general population: tooth decay, dental erosion, periodontal disease, and inflammation around partially erupted wisdom teeth. It’s critical to note that these issues are largely preventable.

Athletes are also at risk for mouth injuries suffered while competing or training.  Tooth trauma can prevent injured athletes from competing in the short term and cause ongoing complications down the road.

Whether you are an Olympic runner or a busy West Chester working mom who seems to be running all the time, dental health affects your overall health and quality of life. Don’t let your performance suffer because of poor oral health.

If it has been a while since you have had a dental exam, we invite you to schedule a check-up and cleaning by calling West Chester Dental Group at 513-942-8181.

What Is Crown Lengthening?

gummy smile surgery Perfect smiles created at West Chester Dental Group often require crown lengthening.

Crown lengthening surgery is a safe and effective procedure that exposes more of the visible part of the tooth. Some patients undergo crown lengthening surgery at West Chester Dental Group to alter their gummy smile.

A gummy smile refers to upper teeth that appear too short because excess bone and soft tissue covers part of the teeth. When a gummy smile is eliminated, our West Chester patients can’t believe how it changes their whole face. They love their new smile which reveals pleasing, symmetrical portions of their upper teeth.

Sometimes, a patient needs crown lengthening because of tooth fracture. When a tooth breaks at the gumline or a crown is fractured, crown lengthening makes tooth structure accessible for the necessary restoration.

Digital imaging is one of the technological tools that helps Cincinnati dental professionals perform crown lengthening and other cosmetic dentistry procedures. When a Tri-State cosmetic dentist has a highly-detailed, 3-D image of tooth and bone structure, he/she is able to achieve the precision necessary to design smiles to the patient’s exact specifications.

Let’s Work Together To Keep Your Smile Healthy And Beautiful

Cincinnati dentistry

Here at West Chester Dental Group we approach all your dental needs from two separate angles – what we can do in our West Chester office and what you can do at home. For example, tooth whitening and correcting discoloration can be treated in our office or at home. Here in the office there are safe and effective methods for lightening yellowed or stained tooth enamel. At-home whitening methods are also safe and effective and sometimes more affordable.

Additionally, we advise you regarding food and drink choices that can affect your whitened smile. Be aware of staining culprits such as coffee, tea, tobacco and harsh sodas. We understand that avoiding these items altogether is not an easy lifestyle change. Nor do we expect it.

Awareness and precaution can make a big difference. Rinsing your mouth out with water after drinking a dark or sugary drink can cut down on the contact your teeth have with such substances. Prolonged exposure to sugar can lead to buildup of plaque and tartar and prolonged exposure to staining substances can lead to stronger staining and discoloration.

4 Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Not everyone is comfortable with going to the dentist – in fact, for some people, just the thought of undergoing a dental procedure makes their heart skip a beat. Unfortunately, this fear and anxiety can keep people from getting the dental care they need, which can lead to troublesome conditions such as gingivitis, discolored teeth, periodontal disease, or even tooth loss. Fortunately, there is a way for people who suffer from dental phobias to still get the care they need without all the stress: It’s called sedation dentistry. (more…)

Reinvent Yourself With A Smile Makeover

Mason smile makeover

A smile makeover can boost your confidence for an upcoming job interview, promotion or new relationship. The process may include teeth whitening, invisible braces, veneers, dental implants, or gum tissue graft surgery.

Many of these take time. Understanding the process requires only a simple consultation. Small changes can make a big difference.

How The Rich Do It
Public figures from London to Hollywood, from New York to Vegas would advise you to:

  • Choose a dental professional with excellent education, a discerning eye and impeccable track record in the cosmetic dentistry field.
  • Consult with the professional, chart a course, and trust the course enough to see it through to completion.
  • Websites are great for cosmetic dentistry track records, education info, staff description and contact information. Visit West Chester Dental Group’s website at http://www.westchesterdentalgroup.com.

Do Not Cut Corners
Cheap glue and shoddy engineering never stopped a plane crash. Every smile makeover should have a unique treatment plan to achieve optimal results. There is no magic pill. Healing takes time before proceeding to the next step. Dental implants, for instance, are valuable in the comfort and beauty they offer but pushing the placement of the permanent restoration before proper healing is dangerous and risky. Learn to be patient with the goal in mind.

Is Mouthwash A Must?

Butler County after hours dental

If you’ve ever walked the aisles of any West Chester, Ohio drugstore, you know that there are many different types of mouthwash. Some tout their germ-killing abilities, others emphasize their fluoride content, and some claim to whiten teeth while freshening the breath. These are all great benefits, but will they make or break your dental health?

Many folks in the West Chester area wonder if daily mouthwash should be part of their dental routine. Brushing and flossing are the two critical habits that have the greatest affect on dental health, so if you’re doing these two things, is mouthwash required?

I’m dentist Sanjeev Goel of West Chester Dental Group in West Chester. When my dental patients ask about mouthwash, I tell them that as long as they follow the directions on the bottle, mouthwash may slightly benefit dental health, even if it doesn’t live up to every promise as advertised. Rinsing with a mouthwash that contains fluoride can’t hurt your teeth, but allowing a bit of diluted toothpaste to stay on tooth surfaces after brushing probably has the same benefit.

People who suffer from bad breath often believe that mouthwash can solve the issue. Actually, mouthwashes that contain alcohol can worsen the problem because they can cause dry mouth – a condition that can contribute to bad breath. Mouthwashes without alcohol are often more effective for freshening breath. These products are usually called flouride rinses.

If you have chronic bad breath, however, you should have your teeth checked for plaque build-up. No amount of mouthwash can remedy a mouth full of plaque. If your teeth and gums are healthy and you still suffer from bad breath, it’s important to ascertain the cause. Bad breath can be an indication of a physical condition, so see your doctor soon.

Bottom line? Never substitute mouthwash for proper brushing and flossing. And if you use mouthwash, pick a brand that contains fluoride and no alcohol.

Thank you for visiting the West Chester dental blog. We like to tackle important issues such as dental products, cosmetic dentistry procedures, over-the-counter teeth whitening, sedation dentistry, invisible braces, pediatric dentistry, oral care habits, and more!

Improve Your Smile with All-on-4 Dental Implants

Is it possible to restore all of your teeth and improve your smile with just four dental implants? Thanks to the latest advances in dental technology, the answer to that question is now a definite “yes.” This might come as somewhat of a surprise, but tooth loss is a relatively common condition in the U.S. – in fact, roughly 11 percent of the population (about 35 million people) have experienced complete loss of all their upper and/or lower teeth. For decades, the traditional go-to treatment for this type of problem has been dentures, but in recent years, a new form of dental restoration has emerged that promises a greater level of comfort and convenience: All-on-4 dental implants. What’s TMJ and How Is It Treated?

You may have heard of TMJ before, but what exactly is it, and how is it treated? For the uninitiated, TMJ actually stands for the temporomandibular joint (thank goodness for acronyms), which is the joint responsible for connecting the jawbone to the skull. When the term “TMJ” (sometimes called “TMJ disorder”) is used in medical parlance, it’s referring to a condition in which this joint is damaged or injured. (more…)
